Nokia has confirmed it will be releasing a new Windows Phone 7 device every three months, once the first device, thought to be landing before the close of 2011, is out of the blocks.

The news comes via PCMag who conducted an interview with Nokia’s executive vice president of smartphones, Jo Harlow.

According to Harlow, ‘We should be launching new devices in a rhythm that might be every couple of months, every three months, something like that.’

Harlow added: ‘We’re going to keep coming with new devices in order to have something to talk about.’

As the market stands at present, Windows Phone 7 is not a primary concern for any manufacturer. HTC, Samsung and LG all produce Windows Phone 7 handsets, which is something that looks set to continue, but the main bulk of their respective releases are Android-based.

So, once Nokia gets its first Windows Phone 7 handset out of the blocks, it’ll be the only manufacturer in the world that uses Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 as its primary operating system – make of that what you will.

The details of the Nokia and Microsoft partnership aren’t clear at the moment, but there are numerous reports about Microsoft granting Nokia unprecedented access to its Windows Phone 7 platform.

If true, this means that Nokia will be able to put its own personal spin on the operating system and offer something none of the other current Windows Phone 7-using manufacturers can. In this respect, Nokia has something of a USP with the platform.

Whether this will work in Nokia’s favour remains to be seen, though. Windows Phone 7 is hardly a threat to Android, iOS or even RIM at present – but that could all change.

Just look what Google did in three years with Android.
